As Americans rushed to file their taxes this week, the House passed a number of bills to fix the broken tax code and rein in abuse at the agency in charge of overseeing it.
Congressman John Fleming, M.D. released the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 1105, the Death Tax Repeal Act:
"Often family owned businesses and farms don't survive from one generation to the next because of the inflated rates of the estate tax, also known as the death tax. I was pleased to support this repeal bill so that hard working American families are no longer forced to break up or sell family land to pay the IRS."
Rep. Fleming also voted in support of H.R. 622, the State and Local Sales Tax Deduction Fairness Act, to allow the American taxpayer to decide whether to deduct state and local sales taxes, or state and local income taxes when filing federal taxes.
Earlier this week, the House passed several pieces of legislation to rein in abuses at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), especially in light of the unfair targeting against select groups of taxpayers.
