Fleming Introduces HSA Health Care Choices Act

Congressman John Fleming, M.D. released the following statement after introducing H.R. 3006, the HSA Health Care Choices Act.

"Health Savings Accounts encourage individuals to plan and save for future health care costs and are a key aspect of patient-centered, market-based care. HSAs synthesize friendly tax policy with patient-centered care enabling account holders to make individualized health care decisions. The HSA Health Care Choices Act builds upon over a decade of HSA policy by expanding the versatility of HSAs. My legislation also repeals several Obamacare provisions hampering tax-advantaged health accounts."

"I am proud of this legislation and hope to see it up for a vote soon. It's time we replaced the failed experiment of Obamacare with common-sense health reforms that will give all Americans access to quality and affordable health care."

Specifically, the legislation:
· Increases the maximum contribution limit to an HSA and delinks the connection between high deductible health plans and HSAs;

· Allows an HSA to be used to purchase health insurance premiums; over-the-counter medications; and pre-paid physician fees;

· Permits HSAs to be passed on to future generations as a tax-exempt account, and enables a beneficiary to pay for another's medical expenses using an HSA;

· Repeals Obamacare contribution limitations on Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) as well as the added Obamacare HSA tax.
