CBN - Marco Rubio: "If You Can't Lead Your Family, You Can't Lead a Country."

The Brody File caught up with Sen. Marco Rubio on the road this past weekend in Iowa where we talked about the importance of the family unit. Here's a sneak peak at some of that interview.

Our Brody File team is working on an in-depth focus story for an upcoming national 700 Club piece. During our conversation he says successfully leading your family is directly tied to politics.

"I believe that at home my most important job is to be a husband to my wife and a father to my children. If I can't do that right, I can't lead a nation. If you can't lead your family, you can't lead a country."

David Brody: Tell me a little bit about the family. And when I say the family, I'm talking about how that really is such a priority for you. You kind of work that schedule around what you need to do back in Florida.

Sen. Marco Rubio: First of all, the family is the original cell of society. In essence, it is the first and most important government. It is the first church. The family is the singular most important institution in society. It existed before government. It existed before laws.

It is within the family where people learn values, where they learn to respect and love other people, where they learn their faith, where they learn respect, where they learn hard work, discipline. If that falls apart, society pays consequences.

I believe that, generally speaking. I believe that at home my most important job is to be a husband to my wife and a father to my children. If I can't do that right, I can't lead a nation. If you can't lead your family, you can't lead a country.

So obviously, it's an important aspect of it. One day I will no longer be in politics. One day I will no longer be a senator or president or anything else. But, I will always be a father and I will always be a husband. It's important for me to do those jobs right first.
