Polis Statement on Department of Labor's Proposed Overtime Rule Increased Overtime Pay Eligibility will Benefit 5 Million Hardworking Americans

"Hard-working Americans deserve to be paid fairly for their time. Unfortunately, for the past several decades that hasn't been the case, as American families have worked longer and harder only to see the buying power of their paychecks shrink. For example, an assistant manager at a fast food restaurant might earn a $25,000 salary, but can be expected to work at least 50 to 60 hours a week¬ without a dime of overpay. Those hours would put a family of four under the poverty line."

"I'm pleased the Department of Labor has recognized this fundamental injustice and adjusted its policies to catch up with the times. Raising the overtime threshold for salaried workers will strengthen our economy and help ensure that every hard-working family has a fair shot at the American dream."
