U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, released the following statement welcoming Ohio Governor John Kasich to the race for the Republican nomination for President of the United States:

"The ever-growing field of GOP contenders is a good and healthy development for our party, and I'm glad to welcome Gov. Kasich to our ranks. John Kasich is a good man who loves this country, and like all others contending for our party's nomination, he will play an important role in preparing our eventual nominee to take on Hillary Clinton in 2016."
