Lujan Meets with Incoming Sandia Labs Director Jill Hruby

Congressman Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico's Third District welcomed Jill Hruby, incoming president and director of Sandia National Laboratories, and current president and director, Paul Hommert, to his Washington office earlier this week. Luján congratulated Hruby, a 32-year veteran of research and management at Sandia, on her new role as labs president and director. Hruby will take over the position next month, making her the first woman to head a national security lab.

"I congratulate Jill Hruby as she prepares to take the helm of Sandia National Laboratories and I look forward to working closely with her and her team to support and strengthen the critical scientific research that is occurring at one of our nation's leading research institutions," Congressman Luján said. "Sandia plays a critical role in our national security as well as New Mexico's economy, and it is essential that we continue to make key investments that keep all of our labs on the cutting edge. We must also ensure that we are leveraging all that New Mexico's labs have to offer to facilitate greater collaboration with local businesses that can spur economic growth and job creation in Northern New Mexico."

Hruby will take over the top position at Sandia on July 17, replacing Paul Hommert who recently announced his retirement after serving as the lab's director since 2010.

"Paul Hommert has led Sandia National Labs with distinction, guiding Sandia's efforts ranging from national security to technology transfer," Luján added. "I commend him for his service and guidance of Sandia's dedicated workforce, and wish him all the best in his next endeavors."
