Menendez, Booker Announce 4 NJ Schools Awarded Department of Education Green Ribbons

U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker (both D-N.J.) applauded the U.S. Department of Education's recognition this Earth Day of four New Jersey schools with the Green Ribbon for their efforts to reduce their environmental impact and costs, improve the health of students and staff, and offer environmental education.

"These New Jersey schools set the standard for others to follow, especially their students, by teaching children the importance of maintaining healthy lives and being a friend to their surrounding environment," said Sen. Menendez. "I hope more schools learn from their example and arm the next generation with the tools to protect our precious natural resources."

"I am proud that four New Jersey schools are receiving such a great recognition on this Earth Day," said Sen. Booker. "This award is an effort to identify and communicate practices that teach students the important civic values and skills that will encourage them to grow into responsible, compassionate, and contributing citizens. It also nurtures at an early age an engagement with our environment -- a precious resource which we all should pay attention to and do our part to save for future generations."

The New Jersey schools being honored are:

East Brunswick Vocational and Technical High School -- East Brunswick, N.J.
Princeton Day School -- Princeton, N.J.
Timber Creek Regional High School -- Erial, N.J.
William Davies Middle School -- Mays Landing, N.J.

The aim of the Department of Education's Green Ribbon Schools is to inspire schools, districts and institutions of higher education to strive for 21st century excellence, by highlighting exemplary practices and resources that all can employ. Nationally, 58 schools, 14 districts, and nine postsecondary institutions were honored for their promising efforts to reduce environmental impact and utility costs, promote better health, and ensure effective environmental education, including civics and green career pathways.
