Pallone Applauds ConnectHome Initiative to Expand High-Speed Broadband Share on twitterShare on facebookShare on email

Statement

Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) issued the following statement today applauding the White House's new ConnectHome initiative, which aims to expand high-speed broadband to more families, particularly low-income households, across the country.

"Access to high-speed broadband is no longer a luxury--it is becoming a necessity. Unfortunately, for too many families across the country, this critical resource is simply not available. Often, our kids are the hardest hit when they are not even able to do their school work without Internet access. As Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Commissioner Rosenworcel has said, this "homework gap' is the cruelest part of the digital divide.

"ConnectHome is an important step to make sure all Americans have the access they need to high-speed broadband and closing the homework gap. I therefore join my colleagues who have called on the FCC to finally act to meet these needs."
