In Case You Missed It: Senate Energy & Resources Committee Holds Hearing on McCain-Gosar Bison Management Act

Today, U.S. Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-04) released the following statement after the Senate Energy and Resources Subcommittee on National Parks held a hearing on legislation sponsored by Senator John McCain, Jeff Flake as well as Congressman Gosar entitled the Grand Canyon Bison Management Act which would direct the Secretary of the Interior to establish a bison management plan for Grand Canyon National Park:

"The federal government's standard policy for dealing with invasive species, like the beefalo, is to waste taxpayer dollars hiring private sharpshooters to kill and remove animals that are overpopulating an area. The U.S. Departments of Agriculture and Interior spend roughly $100 million on projects like this each year. As the Park Service seeks to reduce the exploding bison population in Grand Canyon National Park, it should save taxpayer money and put Arizona hunters to work doing what they love, accomplishing this important task for free. I am pleased to see action by the Senate on this commonsense legislation that empowers sportsmen and supports local conservation efforts."
