U.S. Representative Todd Rokita, Vice Chair of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement today after the House passed the FY16 budget.
"After months of crafting, the House has passed a budget that balances in less than ten years and saves $5.5 trillion without increasing taxes. This budget will provide greater certainty for the future and will truly help all people build better lives for themselves and their families.
For the fifth year in a row, this budget demonstrates leadership to the American people. It continues the conversation regarding the drivers of our debt by proposing positive solutions to reform auto-pilot entitlement programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The budget also includes a new provision prohibiting the "double-dipping' of both Social Security disability benefits and unemployment insurance. This is a responsible budget that deals honestly with our nation's challenges."
The FY16 budget resolution repeals ObamaCare in its entirety, strengthens and preserves Medicare, calls for pro-growth tax reform, and provides for a strong national defense. The resolution also includes Rep. Rokita's Medicaid reform proposal, the State Health Flexibility Act, to provide states with funding flexibility.
