KMA Land - NSK Opens Its Doors to David Young

Iowa 3rd District Congressman David Young spent part of his last day on break in Iowa at the NSK plant in Clarinda.

NSK Clarinda manufactures bearings for a variety of industries, however the majority of their products are used in the American automobile industry. Young met with management of the plant and then took a tour. The Van Meter Republican says he was impressed with what he saw Monday morning.

"I walked away with a sense of relief and pride with what they are doing here. They offering a great product, there are great workers here. They need more workers. You know it's a catch 22 here in southwest Iowa with the unemployment rate as low as it is, it's hard to find some good workers. If you can't find a job around here, you really must not be looking too hard. These are great paying jobs here and these people care about the community, not just the workers but the management here as well at NSK."

Young says acknowledges that American manufacturing has been challenged by a changing market, but he's pleased with how NSK has remained relevant in the global economy.

"Well manufacturing has seen a lot of changes in America as a whole. But manufacturing at least in Iowa has bounced back and is making great strides. So I'm very proud of what's going on here. You know we talk about driving by these massive buildings we see in our communities and wandering what the heck is behind the walls and we've got a lot of great products coming out of here and a lot of great workers."

Congressman David Young went from Clarinda to Creston for a noon function, but he will leave Iowa for Washington late in the day on Monday. We'll have a summary of his time back in the district on our regular chat this morning at 7:35.
