KMA Land - Young Offers Thoughts on Gaming Industry in Iowa

During a busy week of touring his home district, Iowa 3rd District Representative David Young attended a gaming round table held at Ameristar Casino in Council Bluffs.

Much of the discussion was geared toward educating potential Presidential candidates about the gaming industry. One piece of advice that Young offered those in attendence was to keep gaming as a state-regulated industry.

"I just told them to be careful what you ask for when it comes to any kind of federal involvement on these issues," said Young. "I'm not sure you want people from New York or Las Vegas voting on what is happening on the ground in Iowa."

While acknowledging that the gaming industry provides an economic boost, Young says gambling addiction is a serious matter.

"If people aren't careful, they can find themselves in a situation where they have addictive behavior, and they're spending money that should be spent on their families in casinos," said Young. "It's just a reality of this.
People's spending needs to be prioritized, and they need to remember what's really important."

Young was a guest on KMA's 7:35 newscast on Wednesday morning.
