House Freedom Caucus Calls for Vote on D.C. Abortion Disapproval Resolution

Statement

The House Freedom Caucus (HFC) released the following statement today calling on House Republican leaders to allow for a vote on H. J. Res. 43, a Washington, D.C. law that could force religious and conservative employers in the District to cover abortions in their health care plans:

"The House Freedom Caucus urges Republican leadership to allow the House to consider H. J. Res. 43, a resolution to disapprove of the District of Columbia Council's recently-passed Reproductive Health Non-Discrimination Act of 2014 (RHNDA), as soon as possible this week before the law goes into effect. RHNDA would discriminate against D.C. residents with pro-life views. RHNDA could force D.C. employers to cover abortions in their health plans and require pro-life organizations to hire abortion advocates. Under the Home Rule Act, Congress is statutorily empowered to review actions by the D.C. Council."
