Today, Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard (HI-02) attended the funeral service for the Honorable Reverend Clementa Pinckney, a South Carolina State Senator and pastor of the Mother Emanuel AME Church, which was the site of a horrific shooting on June 17 where Pinckney and eight others were killed by a gunman while at Bible study.
"President Obama delivered a beautiful heartfelt speech at the funeral service in South Carolina for the Honorable Reverend Clementa Pinckney,"said Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard. "The aloha born out of the amazing grace of God filled the church. The president was clearly touched by this amazing grace and thereby touched the hearts of all who were present. While obviously not everyone will agree with the president's political views or solutions to the problems we face, we can and should all join him in recognizing and taking shelter in God's unconditional love--God's amazing grace."
Pinckney's funeral service took place on the morning of Friday, June 26 at the TD Arena on the College of Charleston campus. His burial was held directly after the funeral at St. James AME Church in Marion. The pastor is survived by his wife Jennifer and two children, Eliana and Malana.
