Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson and Members of Congress to Recognize the One Year Anniversary of the Horrific Kidnapping of Hundreds of Chibok Schoolgirls by Boko Haram in Nigeria

Tomorrow, Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at 10:45 a.m., Representatives Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24), Carolyn B. Maloney (NY-12), Sheila Jackson Lee (TX-18), Barbara Lee (CA-13), Karen Bass (CA-13), and Lois Frankel (FL-22) will recognize the one year anniversary of the horrific abduction of nearly 300 Chibok schoolgirls by the terrorist group Boko Haram. A girl who managed to escape will testify to her experience and the horrors hundreds of girls still face. The press conference will take place at the House Triangle, located on the Eastern front of the U.S. Capitol Building.
Dozens of supporters and the Members of Congress will be dressed in red, the official color of the #BringBackOurGirls effort for the event as they call for international cooperation to locate the missing girls and return them to their families. Congresswoman Wilson, who has been fighting for the girls' return and who has received House support for resolutions condemning the actions of Boko Haram, issued the following statement:
"Today, April 14th, 2015, marks the one-year anniversary of the horrific abduction of more than 200 schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram from the Chibok Government Girls Secondary School in Nigeria. My colleagues and I have convened this press conference along with advocates committed to this movement to send a clear message: We have not forgotten the girls and the world must not forget about them! I will continue to call attention to the atrocities committed by Boko Haram, call for the return of the kidnapped girls, and hold Nigeria's leaders accountable. Unfortunately, Boko Haram's reign of terror continues. Approximately 1.5 million people have been displaced from their homes and are being forced to live as refugees, including thousands of children who have been separated from their families.
"We owe it to the girls, their families, and the people of Nigeria to end this nightmare, eradicate Boko Haram, and #BringBackOurGirls," said Congresswoman Wilson.
