Senate Passes Bill at the Request of the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma

U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-WY), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs (SCIA), praised the Senate's passage of H.R. 533, a bill to revoke the charter of incorporation of the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma at the request of that tribe. Senator James Lankford (R-OK) worked diligently with Chairman Barrasso to shepherd the bill through the Senate. He also sponsored S. 321, which was identical legislation and passed out of the SCIA on May 11, 2015.

The House of Representatives passed H.R. 533 on June 2, 2015. The bill will now go to the President for his signature.

"The best solutions for Indian Country, come from Indian Country," said Chairman Barrasso. "The Miami Tribe sought this legislation to facilitate their economic development. I'm pleased Congress responded and passed this expeditiously. I urge the President to sign this bill into law as soon as possible."
