Castro Introduces Resolution Recognizing DACA's Anniversary and Positive Impacts

Press Release

Date: June 19, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Yesterday, Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20) introduced a resolution recognizing the third anniversary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and calling for additional solutions to America's broken immigration system.

"DACA is working. In just three years it has changed the lives of more than 660,000 young people who call America home," said Rep. Castro. "While this resolution highlights the ways in which the DACA program improves our nation's economy, boosts our national security, and enriches American society, it also makes clear that more must be done to fix our nation's broken immigration system. We need comprehensive reforms so that our country can fully benefit from all the positive impacts immigrants have to offer."

Projections show that over the next 10 years, DACA, combined with the expanded DACA and Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA) programs that are currently stalled in the courts, stands to result in gross domestic product gains of $230 billion, the creation of more than 28,000 jobs per year, and increases in the income of all Americans by $124 billion.

The resolution was introduced with 15 cosponsors: Jose Serrano (NY-15), Luis Gutierrez (IL-4), Ruben Hinojosa (TX-15), Grace Napolitano (CA-32), Raul Grijalva (AZ-3), Ben Ray Luján (NM-3), Michelle Lujan-Grisham (NM-1), Tony Cardenas (CA-29), Jim Costa (CA-16), Loretta Sanchez (CA-46), Albio Sires (NJ-8), Juan Vargas (CA-51), Filemon Vela (TX-34), Ruben Gallego (AZ-7), and Norma Torres (CA-35).
