Gov. Mike Rounds Announces Signing of Missouri River Resolution

Gov. Mike Rounds announced today a resolution regarding the Missouri River has been signed by all eight of the state Governors in the Missouri River Basin. The Resolution is a result of the Governor's River Summit, hosted in South Dakota by Gov. Rounds in February of this year.

The Resolution addresses the issues of drought, lack of run-off into the upstream basin and the need for maximum efforts for conservation. "The Governors from the basin states all firmly agree there is a need to mitigate the effect of continued drought in the Missouri River Basin," said Gov. Mike Rounds. "We call upon the U. S. Corps of Engineers (Corps) to undertake its best efforts to conserve water to the extent legally permissible."

The Resolution also adds support for full and adequate funding for the Corps' efforts to address fish and wildlife recovery and improving water infrastructure.

States joining South Dakota in signing the Resolution are Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota and Wyoming.
