Reed: 2015 Manufacturing Summit a Great Success

Today, Congressman Tom Reed announced the successful completion of his 2015 Manufacturing Summit in Jamestown, New York.

"We had great turnout from across the region," Reed said. "The information shared today will have a big impact on our manufacturing companies. I believe that Western New York can once again become a global leader in manufacturing, and that resurgence starts today."

The summit brought together manufacturing industry leaders, government agencies and trade representatives to discuss the future of the regional manufacturing industry. The summit featured a number of informational panels which provided more information on opportunities to grow its businesses here, by exporting their products abroad.

In addition, the summit played host to a legislative panel featuring Congressmen Tom Reed (R-NY), Glenn "GT" Thompson (R-PA) and Chris Collins (R-NY). Guests were able to ask the Congressmen questions about legislative action aimed at improving the economic climate of Western New York and the region.

"Manufacturing is the lifeblood of our economy here in Western New York," said Congressman Chris Collins. "Thank you to Congressman Reed for hosting and Congressman Thompson for joining, as we discussed what we need to do to ensure the manufacturing industry can thrive."

"I thank Congressman Reed for inviting me to participate in such a timely event, in order to highlight just how important the manufacturing sector is to our national economy," said Congressman Glenn "GT' Thompson. "With the resurgence of affordable domestically produced energy, the manufacturing landscape across the United States has been drastically reshaped for the positive. Today's summit helped further illustrate that tax, trade, energy and workforce policies play a vital role in keeping good-paying, family-sustaining jobs here at home, while also keeping our country competitive in the global market," added Thompson.

Following the nearly all-day event at Jamestown Community College, attendants were invited to tour the Cummins facility in Lakewood, NY.

"Cummins is a great example of a manufacturing company that has taken domestic resources to make a quality product, and then exported their products to six of seven continents in the world," said Reed. "It's through this business strategy that Cummins supports over 1,500 jobs locally."

The summit concluded following the tour of the Cummins Lakewood facility.
