Blog: April is National Financial Literacy Month

Statement

Date: April 1, 2015

When I think about why financial literacy is important to me, my mentor John Moniz immediately comes to mind. He taught me that good financial health is necessary, and the American Dream is achievable not only through education, but also by setting realistic financial goals and maintaining them.

Financial literacy creates wealth and diminishes crippling debt from student loans. I strongly believe students should not face debt in order to obtain a college degree. College students should use the resources accessible to them so that they are able to make responsible financial decisions. The Empowering Student Borrowers Act, sponsored by Senator Donnelly and me, promotes financial literacy and ensures that students have the best tools to achieve their financial goals.

April is National Financial Literacy Month, and I encourage folks to make financial literacy a priority!
