Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy and we must provide a conducive environment for them to grow. For the past five years, our country's hard-working families and small-business owners have struggled to succeed in a fragile economic recovery. It is more important than ever to create opportunities for these businesses and their employees to expand, succeed, and contribute to their broader communities.
In order to encourage job creation and economic growth, I have supported efforts like the Main Street Revival Act (H.R. 954), which allows small businesses to defer payment of payroll taxes for one year after they hire their first employee and gives start-ups an opportunity to grow.
Our tourism industry is at the main driver to Hawai"i's economy, which is why I joined the Congressional Travel and Tourism Caucus. On every island, a vibrant tourism industry creates opportunity for small businesses to grow. Hawai"i is special in so many ways, and ensuring that we encourage sustainable growth in our tourism industry, will allow visitors and residents alike to continue to enjoy our beautiful home.
