Newsletter: Submit Names of Family Members You Lost in Armenian Genocide

Statement

Dear Friend,

This month marks the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide -- a systematic and deliberate campaign of annihilation launched by the government of the Ottoman Empire against its Armenian population which left 1.5 million Armenians dead and millions more displaced. On April 22nd, for an entire hour on the House Floor, I will be reading as many names of Genocide victims as possible and entering all of the names I receive into the Congressional Record.

I invite descendents of Genocide victims to submit the names of lost loved ones.

Although the names recognized will represent only a mere fraction of those lost, I hope this reading will help dramatize the magnitude of the crime committed against the Armenian people.

In addition to this commemoration, I have introduced the Armenian Genocide Truth and Justice Resolution along with almost 59 of my colleagues. This bipartisan resolution calls upon the President to work toward equitable, constructive, and durable Armenian-Turkish relations based upon the Republic of Turkey's full acknowledgement of the facts and ongoing consequences of the Armenian Genocide. The resolution will also establish a fair, just, and comprehensive international record of this crime against humanity.
