Senator Schatz is honored to have been endorsed by President Obama and other leading Democrats.
When President Barack Obama endorsed Senator Schatz he said, "Senator Schatz is protecting Hawaii's values and fighting every day on behalf of middle-class families. There is no question that Senator Schatz is the right choice to continue delivering for Hawaii."
Senator Schatz was among the earliest supporters of Hawai"i-born Barack Obama's run for President. In 2006, he helped start the Hawai"i Draft Obama campaign, ultimately becoming the Hawai"i spokesperson for Obama for America in 2008.
Senator Schatz's long-standing working relationship with the Obama Administration and with leaders of the U.S. Senate help him to be a strong advocate for the federal support and funding needed for many programs vital to Hawai"i's future. His work in the Senate has earned him the endorsement of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin, and other Democratic leaders.
"Senator Schatz is a fine Senator, a steadfast advocate on behalf of Hawaii in the Senate. I endorse him wholeheartedly and support President Obama's decision to do the same. Brian has proven himself a champion for working families in Hawaii. He has been a leader in efforts to develop clean energy jobs and reduce the impact of climate change, and a strong advocate for ensuring a fair shot for all Americans."
-- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid
Elected Chair of the Democratic Party of Hawai"i in 2008, Senator Schatz helped ignite enthusiasm here at home, helping the Party more than double its active membership and deliver President Obama his largest margin of any state that year.
