Barrasso Introduces Bill to Increase Dam Safety, Water Storage

Today, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-WY), introduced the Dam Authorization, Maintenance and Safety (DAMS) Act of 2015 (S. 1657). The bill would help improve dam safety while potentially expanding water storage capabilities in Wyoming and throughout the West. U.S. Representative David Valadao (R-CA) introduced the companion bill (H.R. 2749) in the House of Representatives on June 12, 2015.

"In the West, our dams are aging and need to be updated immediately in order to keep Americans safe and keep up with the growing water demands of local communities," said Barrasso. "I'm pleased to work with Rep. Valadao to address this important issue. Our bill will give federal agencies the tools they need to repair our aging water infrastructure and expand water storage in states across the West that desperately need it."
