U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) issued then following statement after voting for the USA FREEDOM Act:
"Since the attacks of September 11th, the PATRIOT Act has without question allowed law enforcement and intelligence officials to detect and deter attacks before they happen while employing appropriate checks and balances to ensure our civil liberties remain intact. Extending these authorities represents the best way to ensure the intelligence community and law enforcement officials can operate effectively to protect all Americans in the face of threats from around the globe.
"But as Texans have seen firsthand, the threats to our country are growing, and each day the intelligence community doesn't have these tools available is another day they are forced to operate with one hand tied behind their backs. While the USA FREEDOM Act is not perfect nor my preference, it is better than allowing our intelligence agencies to continue operating in the dark."
