Dear Mr. Fugate:
I write to you regarding flooding and disaster conditions throughout Texas. I appreciate your agency's efforts to address the needs of those who have been affected by the storms and face significant damage to property and infrastructure.
As you know, the President issued a Major Disaster Declaration for the State of Texas, covering at least sixty six counties that experienced severe weather events from May 4 through June 19.
In light of significant, additional rainfall and flooding at the end of this incident period, I am concerned that many of my constituents have received conflicting guidance regarding their eligibility for federal assistance. I would ask you to work closely with affected counties and the State of Texas to clarify relevant eligibility criteria and agree on an approach to classifying recent weather events stemming from incidents near the June 19th end date that best serves the needs of impacted homeowners and communities.
Considerate and timely action is critical to ensuring my constituents are not discouraged from seeking assistance for which they might otherwise qualify, and can plan accordingly for the difficult recovery process ahead.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
