Cramer: House Passes H.R. 2578 - Fiscal Year 2016 Commerce, Justice, and Science Appropriations

Today, Congressman Kevin Cramer joined a majority of his House colleagues to pass H.R. 2578, the Fiscal Year 2016 Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations bill. The legislation provides $51.4 billion in discretionary funding for the Department of Commerce, the Department of Justice, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Science Foundation (NSF), and other related agencies. The amount represents an increase of $1.3 billion over the fiscal year 2015 level. The bill also makes reductions to several lower-priority programs for a savings of more than $400 million compared to fiscal year 2015, and rescinds $375 million in unused prior year funds.

"H.R. 2578 keeps American communities safe, preserves America's leadership in the competitive global economy, continues American leadership in exploring outer space and protects our 2nd Amendment rights from government overreach. All of this is done while keeping an eye on the bottom line by reducing and eliminating wasteful spending. I am encouraged to see additional funding for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) which allows the agency to expand its offices to Williston and provide additional law enforcement protection for Western North Dakota. In addition, our state will benefit from the additional resources authorized in this bill to combat the scourge of human trafficking," said Cramer.
