Himes Statement on 5th Circuit Court of Appeals postponing Obama immigration action

Press Release

Date: May 28, 2015
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Immigration

I'm disappointed in the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals' ruling this week to maintain the injunction against President Obama's bold executive action on immigration. Without the President's order in effect, parents of children who are U.S. citizens or who have a legal status in the country may be deported, devastating families. This continuing legal limbo also means that millions of young people eligible for deferred action under the expansion of DACA, who have lived in the United States almost their entire lives, will continue to face the threat of deportation. I hope that this is resolved as quickly as possible and that the President's actions are allowed to proceed in the interest of compassion and justice.
