Governor Hassan's Statement on Signing HB 520

Statement

Date: June 11, 2015
Location: Concord, NH

Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement after today signing HB 520, establishing privacy protections for student online personal information:

"Technology is an essential component of the 21st century innovation economy and its role in the classroom will only continue to grow as we work to help our students develop the skills and innovative thinking needed for success. At the same time, we increasingly hear stories about the threats that put our digital data at risk. Granite Staters deeply value their right to privacy and protecting and preserving that right is more complex in an increasingly technological world.

"House Bill 520 creates important protections that will help keep students' personal online information secure, a critical step to ensuring that we maintain privacy while helping our young people compete in the innovation economy. I applaud Representative Cordelli and legislators from both parties who worked to pass this bipartisan bill, and I am glad to sign these important student privacy protections into law."
