Governor Maggie Hassan today issued the following statement after the House voted to pass Senate Bill 266, adopting the Uniform Securities Act, legislation spurred by the Governor's Live Free and Start Initiative.

"Our Live Free and Start initiative is bringing together business leaders and entrepreneurs from across the state in order to develop proposals to make it easier for innovative businesses to start up and grow, and Senate Bill 266 is one of their top priorities. By modernizing our securities regulations with a focus on investor protection and reducing hurdles for businesses trying to raise the capital that they need, this bill will support the growth of new, innovative businesses, while also fairly balancing the state's interest in regulating securities transactions.

"This is an important step forward for modernizing our securities regulations, and I applaud the House for their support of this bipartisan bill. I urge both chambers to work together to agree on a final version of the Uniform Securities Act and send me this bipartisan bill as quickly as possible so that we can enact a synchronized and modern law that reflects current thinking and the way business and entrepreneurs work."
