Statement from Governor Hassan on Signing on HB 136

Statement

Date: June 2, 2015
Location: Concord, NH

Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement after today signing HB 136, prohibiting tanning facilities from tanning persons under 18 years of age:

"It is clear that use of tanning beds, especially at young ages, increases the risk of developing skin cancer later in life. We must always be working to protect the health and safety of our young people, and by prohibiting minors from using tanning beds - just as we prohibit their use of alcohol and tobacco - we can help reinforce the fact that tanning poses serious health risks and decrease the risk of skin cancer for our younger generations. I thank Representative Barnes and the bipartisan group of legislators who came together to pass this measure, and I am proud to sign House Bill 136 into law."
