Following today's announcement that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has released $2.3 million in fishery disaster funds to New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Maine, Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement:
"New Hampshire's treasured fishing industry is critical to our economy on the Seacoast and across the state, also representing a way of life that we cherish. The release of these critical funds will help support our fishing community and infrastructure that has struggled with burdensome federal catch limits. I thank Senators Shaheen and Ayotte for their effective advocacy on behalf of New Hampshire's fisheries, and I will continue to work with them and our federal partners to adequately address the unique needs of this critical New Hampshire industry."
Last year, Governor Hassan sent a letter to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration urging the allocation of disaster assistance funds directly to the states in order to help bring stability to the New Hampshire fishing industry.
