Governor Hassan Announces Job Training Grants for Five New Hampshire Companies in March

As part of her efforts to help New Hampshire workers develop the skills and innovative thinking needed for success in the 21st century economy, Governor Maggie Hassan announced today that five New Hampshire companies have been awarded job training grants to help them train 416 workers in new skills.

The job training grants total $96,720, and the companies contributed the same in matching funds to bring the total amount for training workers to $193,440.

"I am excited to announce another round of important grants to help prepare New Hampshire workers for success in high-quality jobs at growing businesses," Governor Hassan said. "New Hampshire's Job Training Fund is a valuable resource that has helped thousands of workers develop the skills necessary for jobs in the innovation economy. By maintaining our commitment to higher education and job training, we can attract innovative businesses, help existing companies grow, and support the creation of good jobs that will expand middle class opportunity, encourage innovation and help keep our economy moving in the right direction."

Colonial Woodworking Inc. of Bradford received a grant of up to $8,200 for 13 employees to receive LEAN training from Manchester Community College and the New Hampshire Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NHMEP).

A grant of $8,900 was awarded to NextGen Telecom Services Inc. of Rochester for 22 employees to receive training from Fibernext and Fiber Insight in fiber theory fundamentals, splicing, testing and certification.

Janco Electronics Inc. of Rollinsford received a Job Training Fund grant of $1,295 for one employee to receive training and certification in electronic assembly workmanship standards from Eptac Corporation.

Omni Components Corp of Hudson received a grant of up to $13,895 for Nashua Community College to train 55 employees in a variety of LEAN courses, blueprint reading and specialized Swiss-style screw machines.

New England Wire Technologies of Lisbon received a grant of up to $64,430 for 325 employees to receive training from a variety of sources, including UMass Lowell for properties of plastics; Rauwendaal Extrusion for engineering; New Horizons Computer Learning for Microsoft server and certification; White Mountains Community College for problem solving and critical thinking; NHMEP for Six Sigma; and the University of New Hampshire for effective teaming, interpersonal communications, understanding organizational change, and acquisitions.

The Job Training Fund has awarded $7,822,145.11 in grants since October 2007, with employers contributing $10,460,347.08 for a total of $18,282,492.19 in new training for 23,159 New Hampshire workers.
