Gov. Scott: Naples Adds 5,700 New Jobs Over Year in April 2015

Today, Governor Rick Scott announced the Naples-Marco Island metro area experienced positive annual job growth with an increase of 5,700 jobs over the year in April 2015. The MSA's unemployment rate declined by 0.5 percentage point over the year, from 5.1 percent in April 2014 to 4.6 percent in April 2015. Florida businesses have added more than 865,000 private-sector jobs since December 2010.

Governor Scott said, "The Naples metro area added 5,700 new jobs over the year in April, and unemployment dropped down to 4.6 percent. With job opportunities growing and the unemployment rate continuing to drop, Florida is continuing to be the best state in the nation to grow a business and create jobs for Florida families."

The industries gaining the most jobs in the metro area over the year in April 2015 were trade, transportation, and utilities with 1,200 new jobs, and construction, professional and business services, and education and health services with 900 new jobs each. In April 2015, the metro area had the fastest annual job growth rate compared to all the metro areas in the state, tied with the Orlando and Cape Coral-Ft. Myers metro areas, in total employment at 4.3 percent. The Naples-Marco Island metro area had 4,540 online job openings in April 2015, and the area also had 844 online openings for high wage, high skill science technology engineering math (STEM) occupations.

Florida created 25,800 private-sector jobs in April 2015, and a total of 865,600 private-sector jobs since December 2010. Florida's statewide unemployment rate for April 2015 was 5.6 percent. In April, more than 37,600 Floridians were placed in jobs by CareerSource Southwest Florida and the state's other 23 Regional Workforce Boards.
