Gov. Scott: West Palm Beach Adds More Than 20,000 Jobs Over the Year in April 2015

Today, Governor Rick Scott announced that the West Palm Beach metro area experienced positive annual job growth, with an increase 20,600 jobs over the year in April 2015. The metro area's unemployment rate declined by 0.9 percentage point over the year, from 5.6 percent in April 2014 to 4.7 percent in April 2015. Florida businesses have added more than 865,000 private-sector jobs since December 2010.

Governor Scott said, "In West Palm Beach, more than 20,000 new jobs were added over the year, which means more opportunities for families to live the American dream. Jobs are being created all over the state. More than 865,000 private-sector jobs have been added across the state since December 2010, which is exciting news for all Florida families."

The industries with the largest job gains over the year were professional and business services with 8,400 new jobs, and education and health services and trade, transportation, and utilities with 2,800 new jobs each. Nine of the ten major industry sectors gained jobs over the year. In April 2015, the West Palm Beach metro area had 21,318 online job openings. The metro area had 5,531 for high wage, high skill science technology engineering math (STEM) openings.
Florida created 25,800 private-sector jobs in April 2015, and a total of 865,600 private-sector jobs since December 2010. Florida's statewide unemployment rate for April 2015 was 5.6 percent. In April, more than 37,600 Floridians were placed in jobs by CareerSource Palm Beach and the state's other 23 Regional Workforce Boards.
