Gov. Scott: Miami Added 42,300 Jobs Over the Year in March 2015

Governor Rick Scott announced today that the Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall metro area gained 42,300 new jobs in March 2015 compared to a year ago, the second highest number of jobs among all metro areas. The area's unemployment rate declined by 1.3 percentage point over the year, from 7.5 percent in March 2014 to 6.2 percent in March 2015. Florida businesses have added more than 841,000 private-sector jobs since December 2010.

Governor Scott said, "Economic growth continues to be strong across Florida, with more than 841,000 jobs created statewide since December 2010, including over 42,000 new jobs in the Miami area over the year. As job opportunities continue to grow for our families, we will remain committed to implementing policies to make Florida the best place to succeed."
The Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall metro area led the metro areas in job gains over the year in trade, transportation, and utilities with 11,700 new jobs, education and health services with 9,200 new jobs, and financial activities with 3,600 new jobs. Nine of the ten major industry sectors gained jobs over the year in March 2015 in the metro area. The Miami metro area had the third-highest online job demand in Florida in March 2015 with 32,035 job openings and had the third-highest number of openings for high wage, high skill science technology engineering math (STEM) occupations in March 2015 with 7,416 online openings.

Florida created 29,400 private-sector jobs in March 2015, and a total of 841,100 private-sector jobs since December 2010. Florida's statewide unemployment rate for March 2015 was 5.7 percent. In March, more than 37,400 Floridians were placed in jobs by CareerSource Central Florida, along with the state's other 23 Regional Workforce Boards.
