Gov. Scott: Orlando Area Leads Florida in Job Creation

Today, Governor Rick Scott announced that the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area's (MSA) gained 50,200 new jobs over the year in March 2015, the highest number of new jobs among all Florida metro areas. The Orlando MSA's unemployment rate declined by 1.1 percentage point over the year, from 6.2 percent in March 2014 to 5.1 percent in March 2015. Florida businesses have added more than 841,000 private-sector jobs since December 2010.

Governor Scott said, "We are excited to announce that Orlando once again leads all areas of the state in job creation, with 50,200 new jobs over the year. This incredible growth means more opportunities for Central Florida families to find jobs and provide for their families. We will keep working to continue economic growth across Florida."

In March 2015, the Orlando metro area led all Florida metro areas in job gains over the year in leisure and hospitality with 14,300 new jobs, professional, business services with 10,000 new jobs, and construction with 6,000 new jobs. All ten major industry sectors gained jobs over the year in March 2015.The Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford MSA had the second-highest online job demand in Florida in March 2015 with 36,215 openings and also ranked number two in high wage, high skill science technology engineering math (STEM) demand in the state with 9,629 openings in those fields.

Florida created 29,400 private-sector jobs in March 2015, and 841,100 total private-sector jobs since December 2010. Florida's statewide unemployment rate for March 2015 was 5.7 percent. In March, more than 37,400 Floridians were placed in jobs by CareerSource Central Florida, along with the state's other 23 Regional Workforce Boards.
