Gov. Scott: Naples Adds Nearly 7,000 New Jobs Over Year

Today, Governor Rick Scott announced the Naples-Marco Island metro area experienced positive annual job growth with an increase of 6,900 jobs over the year in March 2015. The MSA's unemployment rate declined by 0.9 percentage point over the year, from 5.7 percent in March 2014 to 4.8 percent in March 2015. Florida businesses have added more than 841,000 private-sector jobs since December 2010.

Governor Scott said, "Naples added 6,900 new jobs over the year, which means that many more local residents will have the opportunities to achieve their dreams in our state. Businesses across the world are recognizing that Florida is the best place to grow, and we will continue to welcome job growth and opportunities for our families."

The industries gaining the most jobs in this metro area over the year in March 2015 were construction and trade, transportation, and utilities with 1,700 new jobs each, and professional and business services with 1,100 new jobs. In March 2015, the metro area had the fastest annual job growth rate compared to all the metro areas in the state in total employment at 5.2 percent. The Naples-Marco Island metro area had 4,749 online job openings in March 2015, and the area also had 845 online openings for high wage, high skill science technology engineering math (STEM) occupations.

Florida created 29,400 private-sector jobs in March 2015, and a total of 841,100 private-sector jobs since December 2010. Florida's statewide unemployment rate for March 2015 was 5.7 percent. In March, more than 37,400 Floridians were placed in jobs by CareerSource Central Florida, along with the state's other 23 Regional Workforce Boards.
