Polis on GOP Budget: "Gimmicks Stacked on Gimmicks'

Representative Jared Polis (CO-02) released the following statement after the House voted last night to pass the so-called "Price 2" budget, a partisan proposal that imposes dangerous shifts in federal spending:

"Last night the Republican leadership used gimmicks stacked on gimmicks as they passed a radical and partisan budget that they know is dead on arrival at the White House. While we saw Republicans are capable of working across the aisle with a diverse group of Members, as they did with the SGR fix, they have now reverted to the same thinking that has made this one of the least productive Congresses in history.

"We had a real opportunity to work together to pass a responsible balanced budget that simplifies and lowers tax rates, invests in our future, and keeps our nation secure. Every one of my Democratic colleagues was ready to engage in a real, substantive discussion on how to move forward, yet Republicans have once again made clear that they would rather cut Medicaid, than upset the Tea Party.

"The Democratic alternative budget, while not perfect, laid out clear priorities that would strengthen the middle class, invest in education and infrastructure, and keep our economy moving forward."
