Chairman Barrasso Praises Sen. Lankford for Hosting SCIA Field Hearing on Indian Economic Development

U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-WY), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs (SCIA), praised Committee member Senator James Lankford (R-OK) for chairing an oversight field hearing on advancing economic success in Indian Country.

"As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, my goal has been to hear from Indian Country directly. I want to personally thank Senator Lankford for recommending and chairing this important field hearing on economic development in Indian Country," said Chairman Barrasso. "This field hearing is a great opportunity to hear firsthand from Native American entrepreneurs and it will give the Committee helpful insight into what else we can do to spur economic growth for Tribes and their members. It will also clearly highlight the challenges that business owners still face and what else can be done to help them. Economic development is a priority of the Committee. We'll continue to focus on this important topic because job growth will help create a higher quality of life in Indian communities."

The hearing will focus on how Indian-owned businesses have achieved sustainable, independent economic success and what barriers to continued success remain. Senator Lankford is chairing the hearing in Anadarko, Oklahoma at the Anadarko High School Auditorium. The field hearing will take place on May 27, 2015 at 4:30 PM CT.
