Lujan Statement on Republican Budget

Statement

Date: April 30, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico's Third District released the following statement today after voting against the Budget Committee Conference Report.

"Congressional Republicans have passed a budget that will make it tougher for hard-working Americans to get ahead. Instead of offering a blueprint will help families grow their paychecks, afford a quality college education, and save for a dignified retirement, Congressional Republicans have put special interests first.

"This irresponsible budget protects tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas instead of making the needed investments in education and job training so that New Mexicans can continue to gain the skills they need to compete in this global economy. It shortchanges investments in infrastructure that are critical to creating jobs and strengthening our economic competitiveness. And it continues Congressional Republicans' assault on the Affordable Care Act, threatening to take away health care coverage for millions of Americans and allowing health insurance companies to once again discriminate against 860,000 New Mexicans with pre-existing conditions.

"House Democrats have offered a budget that builds an economy that works for every day Americans. It rewards hard work, invests in the next generation, and protects our seniors to ensure a brighter future for the people of New Mexico and our nation."
