Today, U.S. Representative Filemon Vela, D-Brownsville, announced that the U.S. Senate confirmed State District Judge Rolando Olvera as a U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of Texas. The Senate voted 100 to 0 on his confirmation.
"I'm pleased Judge Olvera was confirmed by the U.S. Senate today and have no doubt he will serve on the federal bench with honor and distinction," U.S. Rep. Vela said. "I've known Judge Olvera for many years and his 12 years of experience as a judge will serve him well in this new chapter of his judicial career. I wish him the best of luck."
On Jan. 21, Judge Olvera appeared before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee for his nomination hearing. During the hearing, he answered questions about his experience as an attorney and judge as well as his philosophical views regarding the law.
Since 2009, Judge Olvera has served as the state district judge of the 445th State District Court. He has also served as the state district judge of the 138th and 357th State District Courts.
Judge Olvera replaces U.S. State District Judge Hilda Tagle who took senior status in 2012
