Cramer: House Passes Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015

Statement

Today, Congressman Kevin Cramer and an overwhelming majority of his colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass H.R. 1191, Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015. This bill would assert Congress' role in overseeing the Iran nuclear deal. The bill would prevent the president from unilaterally lifting sanctions on Iran if Congress votes to disapprove a final nuclear deal with Iran.

"A nuclear armed Iran is a nightmare the world cannot afford. This bill ensures Congress will have additional time and information to review any agreement negotiated between the administration, Iran, and other P5+1 countries. The bill also establishes the opportunity for Congress to disapprove an agreement and prevent the administration from waiving or suspending Congressional sanctions which helped bring the Iranians to the table in the first place. Regardless of the outcome of these negotiations, the United States must be prepared to respond to any future Iranian attempts to produce nuclear weapons with the strongest diplomatic, economic and military options available," said Cramer.
