Chairman McCaul Expresses Concern About Global Efforts to Stem Flow of Foreign Fighters

Today, House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Michael McCaul, R-Texas, released the following statement in response to a meeting of top officials from around the world, including Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Jonson, at the United Nations regarding the threat from foreign fighters:

Chairman McCaul: "I commend Secretary Johnson for taking the foreign fighter threat seriously. However, I am deeply concerned that many of our allies, especially in Europe, are still in a "pre-9/11' counterterrorism mindset. Overseas security gaps, like the "jihadi superhighway' that runs through Turkey and Europe, represent a growing threat to the United States. We must better work with our foreign partners to close the loopholes that allow foreign fighters to slip across borders undetected."
