Chairman McCaul On One-Year Anniversary Marking Release of Taliban Five: Releasing Known Terrorists is Not Only Dangerous, It's Reckless

U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Michael McCaul issued the following statement today on the one-year anniversary marking the release of the Taliban Five:

Chairman McCaul: "Extending the travel ban on the Taliban Five terrorists is the right thing to do. But the fact that the travel ban even needs to be extended is another clear indicator that these terrorists are dangerous and should have never been released from Guantanamo. The President's lack of a real detention policy for foreign terrorists puts American lives in danger. Releasing known terrorists who are likely to reengage in extremist activity, is not only dangerous, it is reckless. The President must stop ignoring the intelligence that shows many of these jihadists are heading back to the battlefield, and he must immediately halt all planned releases of hardened extremists from Guantanamo Bay."
