SCHUMER: A GOOD DEAL TO AVOID THE NUCLEAR OPTION

Tonight, after long hours of negotiations over the last few weeks, a compromise has been reached to stop the Republican leadership from triggering the nuclear option, which would change over 200 years of Senate history and destroy our country's system of checks and balances. The following is a statement from Sen. Chuck Schumer, the Chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee:

"Armageddon had been averted, and thank God. The nuclear option is off the table and the checks and balances that have been an intrinsic part of the Senate for over 200 years have been preserved."
