SCIA Passes Barrasso Bill to Reauthorize and Enhance Tribal Housing Program

Statement

Today, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-WY), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs (SCIA), praised the Committee's passage of S. 710, the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act Reauthorization of 2015 (NAHASDA). S. 710 would reauthorize the NAHASDA through fiscal year 2020 and enhance the comprehensive federal policy that empowers Indian tribes to address housing needs. The bill will now go before the Senate Banking Committee for consideration.

"Today, the Committee moved forward in passing important legislation that will help tribes address the housing needs of families in their communities," said Chairman Barrasso. "Every family needs a good, safe home in order to thrive and I believe this bill empowers more families in Indian country to have just that."
