Pallone Applauds Progress Made in Review of U.S. Energy Infrastructure

Statement

Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-6), Ranking Member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, issued the following statement after the Obama Administration released its first installment of the Quadrennial Energy Review (QER). A Presidential Memorandum issued in January 2014 directed the Department of Energy to conduct a QER in order to examine the United States' energy infrastructure and provide policy recommendations on how best to expand and modernize the system:

"The QER is a serious, thoughtful, and necessary look at how best to modernize America's energy infrastructure, and I applaud the Obama Administration for releasing this first installment.

"As I continue to work with Chairman Upton, Chairman Whitfield, and Ranking Member Rush to explore the potential for developing and moving a bipartisan energy bill during this Congress, I hope we will take advantage of the QER. We need to look at all sides of the equation--demand and supply, consumers and producers, and, most importantly, the impacts of a changing climate--to help us construct an energy future that is both economically and environmentally sustainable. And we need the resources of both sides of the aisle, both chambers of Congress, and all branches of government in order to get there.

"I look forward to future installments of the QER and to working with both the Administration and my colleagues in Congress to develop sound energy policy that works for America--energy policy that increases resilience, lowers carbon emissions, creates jobs, and makes our economy more competitive."
