Pingree Welcomes Historic FCC Decision to Protect Net Neutrality

Statement

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree released the following statement today after the Federal Communications Commission voted to pass critical protections for net neutrality by treating the Internet as a public utility.

"What has made the Internet such a success, and such an integral part of our lives, is its free and unencumbered exchange of information. From making online purchases to streaming shows to the ice bucket challenge, the Internet's users have been the ones to decide what ideas take off. The FCC made a historic decision today to protect that legacy. Regulating the Internet as a public utility will keep giant broadband providers from stifling innovation and fair competition for their own ends. This is a huge victory for the millions of people who rose up in the last year to speak up for net neutrality and a free and open Internet."
