Van Hollen: New Designation for Carroll County an Important Step to Improving Access to Health Care

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen announced that Carroll County has been designated a Governor's Exceptional Medically Underserved Population by the federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), an important step toward improving access to primary care services in Carroll County. Congressman Van Hollen has been a strong advocate for this designation, which acknowledges barriers to care in the region and will enable safety-net organizations to apply for resources to better serve low-income residents in Carroll County.

"This designation is an important first step toward improving access to health services for more hardworking families and seniors in Carroll County," said Congressman Van Hollen. "Obtaining this designation was a community effort, and I look forward to working with HRSA, State, County, and local officials, and our community partners to make quality health care affordable and accessible for all Marylanders."

Congressman Van Hollen advocated with Access Carroll, a free health clinic in Westminster, and the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene for this designation from HRSA.
